Balkan Shield 2026: AC-Unity Shows the First Bosnian-Made Service Rifle

AC-Unity, the private company from the Bosnian town of Gorazde founded in 2015 — known to U.S. customers for polymer AK, AR-15 and MP5 magazines — showed its first 5.56 service rifle at Balkan Shield 2026. It is essentially the first service rifle ever produced in Bosnia: even in the Yugoslav era, when Bosnia's military-industrial production was massive by European standards, small arms were made at the Zastava factory in Kragujevac, Serbia, not in Bosnia.

Technical director Erwin Bekto says the company plans two versions: one with a mil-spec aluminum receiver and one with a lightweight polymer receiver. No military sales have been announced yet, but with the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina aligning with NATO, a domestically made AR-15 variant reads as a logical option for the country's armed forces.

The company also showed an AR-based 9x19 pistol-caliber carbine, the Alfa AC-SMG9, with a polymer receiver. A homegrown Bosnian rifle family is taking shape — worth watching.
