Blue Nun β the German wine that sold 3.5 million bottles a year at its 1970s-80s heyday β is being relaunched in the UK by Les Grands Chais de France (GCF), which acquired the brand's owner, Franz Wilhelm Langguth Erben, in 2024. GCF calls it one of the greatest success stories in the wine industry.
The relaunch rides several consumer trends: two relatively low-ABV expressions, and a move away from the sweet Muller-Thurgau Liebfraumilch of the '70s. A 30% Riesling addition to the blend dates back to 1996, when FW Langguth Erben acquired the brand (lowering sweetness), and Riesling plays a larger part in the new-look wines.
An evolution of the labels accompanies the refresh. The nostalgia play is real β and this time the wine in the bottle has moved with the times.

As someone in the industry, the supply picture tracks with what I'm seeing on orders.

Been waiting on this one since the announcement. Retailers near me say stock is moving fast.
