EU Losing 13 Billion Euros a Year to Illicit Tobacco, Auditors Say

The European Court of Auditors (ECA) says the EU is lagging in the fight against illicit tobacco: the auditors estimate the illicit trade costs the EU and its member states about 13 billion euros in lost revenue annually.

EUobserver reported the ECA found one in 10 cigarettes made in the EU is either illegally produced or smuggled, while vapes and heated tobacco products account for 13% of the illicit market by value.

Whatever your view of Brussels' tobacco rules, a black market this size is a story about enforcement capacity β€” and about what prohibition-scale taxes invite.

The optics-ready trend keeps getting better. Cheap to mount, zero excuse not to train with a dot now.
