Glock's Gen5 Rollout Quietly Rewrites the Duty-Pistol Standard

Evergreen industry context — illustrative seed content.

Glock's Gen5 lineup, now in its third year of steady expansion, has become the default duty pistol for American law enforcement and is steadily pushing older generations out of civilian holsters too.

The Gen5 changes — no finger grooves, an ambidextrous slide stop, a flared mag well, and better out-of-box triggers — addressed most of the complaints shooters had about the platform for two decades without giving up the simplicity that made it the standard.

The aftermarket has responded with a flood of optics cuts, triggers, and magazine extensions, cementing Glock's hold on the largest accessory ecosystem in the industry.

For USPSA and IDPA shooters, the Gen5 is now the baseline most classifiers are written against, and the platform shows no sign of slowing.

Solid coverage — good to see someone reporting on the industry without the usual doom framing.

The pricing is the real story here. Competition is good for everyone holding a wallet.
