Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, and Heaven Hill Race to Restock a Thirsty World

After a decade of allocation lists and empty shelves, the great Kentucky bourbon build-out is starting to pay off, with Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam's parent Beam Suntory, and Heaven Hill all dumping record barrels.

Years ago distillers bet that the aged-stock crunch would be a permanent feature of the market; today that bet is reversing as the first wave of new production reaches maturity.

The result is a gentler secondary market and a slow thaw in tasting-room scarcity — though top-shelf single barrels remain allocation-only, and likely will for years.

For drinkers, the lesson is vintage economics: the whiskey you can't find today was distilled during the shortage, and the whiskey distillers banked then is arriving now.
