FDA Clears 11 ZYN ULTRA Products as the Pouch Shelf Gets Crowded

The FDA has authorized 11 ZYN ULTRA moist oral nicotine pouch products from Swedish Match USA, a Philip Morris International affiliate, following scientific review. The authorization covers all 9mg variants plus one 11mg Smooth; additional 11mg SKUs remain under review. ZYN ULTRA is a higher-moisture, tobacco-leaf-free format that builds on the earlier 3mg and 6mg ZYN authorizations.

The commercial machine is already running: PMI began commercializing ZYN ULTRA in June 2026, and smoke-free products now account for roughly 42% of PMI's Q2 2026 net revenues across 109 markets. We track PM on the FreedomWire Markets board.

The shelf is no longer a one-brand story, either. ZSY launched a 21-plus-flavor moist pouch line in August 2026, with 3/6/9/12/15mg strengths and 20 pouches per tin against ZYN's 15. And Altria's on! PLUS became the second FDA-authorized pouch brand, with national distribution ramping from March 2026.
